Movement isn’t the result of Motivation — it’s the Source
Questions
If a film crew followed you around for a week, would your actions reflect the life you say you want — or the one you've settled for?
What’s one small action you’ve been putting off because you're waiting to “feel ready”? What if that action is the very thing that creates the readiness you seek?
Are you living your story — or just watching it unfold on autopilot, hoping someone else will write the next chapter for you?
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
If You Were the Main Character in the Movie of Your Life, What Would the Audience Be Screaming at You to Do?
Imagine this…
The lights dim. The screen lights up. It’s you, maybe you are stuck in the loop of burnout, self-doubt, and too many unfinished ideas. You’re going through the motions, waiting for the motivation to hit or the perfect plan to appear.
The audience? They’re on the edge of their seats.
They know the potential you’re sitting on.
They’re shouting at the screen:
“Move! Take Action! Get out of the way! Start the thing! This is your moment!”
Last week, I was sitting in a conference and the speaker dropped this bomb of a question. In my mind that question became visual. How do you think the audience would respond? Coaching Truth: You Don’t Find Motivation — You Create It Through Action
One of the biggest traps high-performers fall into is waiting.
Waiting to feel motivated.
Waiting for clarity.
Waiting until it’s perfect, planned, and proven.
But here’s the truth: Nothing changes until you move first.
Movement isn’t the result of motivation — it’s the source of it.
You don’t get momentum by thinking about it.
You earn it through action. And action — even the smallest step — triggers everything else.
“Action is the foundational key to all success.”
— Pablo Picasso
If you feel burned out, you’re burned out because you’re disconnected from progress. Burnout isn’t always from doing too much, it’s often from doing the wrong things for too long without a sense of purpose, direction, or measuring progress to reach results. When we open ourselves up and take on too many things, it exposes us to more surface area in which we can find discouragement. This is why pressure and stress often mount; the more success we achieve, because we start taking on multiple bigger challenges simultaneously. That’s where coaching comes in. But even coaching can’t create change if you don’t show up and move.
Movement Doesn’t Just Build Momentum — It Builds Meaning
As I write this chapter speaking about the power and impact of movement, I am recovering from a sinus infection and what appears to be my fourth or fifth round of Covid. Zero taste or smell and the fatigue is real, so no running nor movement is happening right now. As an athlete currently training for my next marathon the mental setback is much harder than the physical side. The irony of not being able to run talking about movement, while also recently writing about the 5th anniversary of Lockdown isn’t lost on me. The discouragement is real.
We often think that once we feel inspired or have a clear purpose, then we’ll finally have the energy to act. But meaning is almost never discovered while sitting still. It’s revealed while doing.
Why? Because movement puts you in proximity to feedback, growth, people, and opportunities.
When you start the business, you learn what lights you up.
When you make the call, you strengthen relationships.
When you show up to the gym, you reconnect with strength and discipline.
When you take the uncomfortable action, you prove to yourself you can trust you.
Every step forward, every rep, every dial, every risk — it builds a narrative. It creates connection to something bigger than the task itself.
Meaning isn’t found — it’s made.
And you make it by moving.
Here’s your challenge:
Stop waiting for the breakthrough to happen magically and become the person who makes it happen.
Are You Ready to Rewrite the Scene?
No more waiting. No more hesitation.
If you’re ready to level up — in business, life, mindset, health — the next chapter starts with one move.
So…
What’s your next scene?
What’s the action your future self will thank you for taking today?
Let’s go. I’m in your corner but I can’t move for you. Will you take the next step?
I Believe in You
