The Windshield and the Rearview Mirror

Questions of the Week

What do you need to leave in the review mirror in order to focus even more on the windshield in front of you?

If your life and business were a bumper sticker, what would it say about the way you started the new year?

A lesson is repeated until it is learned, what lessons have you mastered in 2021 so you never repeat them again? What lessons are you refusing to learn?

“The way to be a hero is by demonstrating to other people how they can be heroes.” - Dan Sullivan

Who do you intend to be a hero for today? This week? This month? This Year?

What is your confidence level in your road map for the year ahead?

Since life doesn’t give us a post-it-note to save the date for challenges, are you 100% obsessed with achieving your goals in spite of anything that could get in the way?

2021 in Reflection

Have you ever noticed how much bigger the windshield is in a car than the review-mirror? Consider the present is now being physically in the car and the future is represented by what you see through the windshield in front of you, while the past is what is in the rearview and gets smaller and smaller the more you move forward. If we spend time looking in the review, then boom you miss what is right in front of you. The first of the year is an opportunity to leave behind a calendar year while carrying all the lessons learned into the future. Setting an intention, theme, or word of the year connects our consciousness to the universal power of divine inspiration and focus.

What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.”

―Buddha

Last December I decided my word of 2021 would be, ‘Advance.’ Advance: To Move in a Forward Direction. In the previous twenty-four months, I’d seen my leader replaced for the second time and the direction of the company I was with was no longer aligned with my own personal values. After 12 years with the same organization, I woke up one day and said “Thats enough!” See, you either buy into the leader and follow their vision or you buy into the vision and follow the person who’s leading. What happens when you discover you don’t buy into either? Simple answer is that it’s time to make a change and go… The company I began my coaching career with in 2009 was all about people and transforming lives through coaching and teaching, while the company I left had become about numbers. I knew it was time to make a change, burn the boats, and look ahead through the windshield. In February I made a move and by April I was reunited with my very first coach Debbie De Grote and officially became a coach with FORWARD Coaching. Who knew setting an intention with the word ‘Advance’ would result in becoming a coach with a company appropriately named Forward?! That is the power of Intention and setting your Word.

No looking backwards as the present is where you are and what’s ahead is seen through the windshield. What is your word of 2022?
